Pope John Paul II Day (Dzien Papieza Jana Pawla II)

The Polish Parliament in 2005 established October 16th (the day Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of Krakow was elected Pope in 1978) as Pope John Paul II Day in Poland.

It is not a public holiday.

John Paul II has been widely acclaimed as one of the most influential leaders of the twentieth century. It is widely agreed that he was instrumental in ending communism in his native Poland and eventually all of Europe.
